Despite the government's best efforts simplify the process, the fact is that filing your taxes can still be a confusing and stressful process. H&R Block also offers “worry free” audit support and representation to all of its users, though the site clearly states that they do not provide reimbursement of taxes, penalties or interest by taxing authorities.

So what can you expect if you sign up for one of H&R Block's fee-paying services? Well, upgrading your account from the free version opens up a much wider range of tax filing options and a number of extra features worth considering, including the ability to import returns from the last year, a more substantial system of guidance to help you through your returns, support on how to maximise a variety of tax returns and refunds, and extra assistance from tax professionals.

Most people will probably choose to file their taxes electronically, but if you decide that you want to do it ‘in person’ you can locate one of many H&R Block offices all over the US, to help you do so. This is an extra touch that you won’t find on other tax filing sites, and the personal approach is certainly helpful if you need advice on how to best go forward.

HRBlock.com also offers a range of software packages for use in the home and office, which are aimed at people with simple tax situations, home owners and investors, self-employed individuals and those who are property owners (and rent out their property), or small business owners.

These software packages are also reviewed by customers, which is a great way to see whether or not they are worth the price. You might suspect that the site simply posts the ‘good’ reviews, but this isn’t the case as you are able to read all reviews and not every service or software package receives great reviews. The “Premium & Business” software package, for example, has less than a 3 out of 5 stars rating, based on 49 customer reviews. If you are not strapped for cash then H&R Block's paid services are certainly worth considering as we think that they offer reasonable value for money.

The site is easy to join and navigate, with colorful and well organized labels and drop-down boxes in appropriate positions. You don’t often find yourself lost or not knowing where to look, which makes the whole process a lot smoother. There are a few adverts on the home page, attempting to recommend the site’s own credit card, which were a slight intrusion, but nothing major. A good number of the customer reviews also seem to suggest that the software is very easy to use, so even the most novice tax-filer shouldn’t have too many issues in using it effectively.

H&R Block offers a wide range of services and packages at a reasonable price. Its range of services and features is substantial enough to cater for most personal and small business tax filing needs, and its free service (including free personal support) is a great addition if you’re on a tight budget. Whether you’re a waitress, a hardware store owner or the director of a multinational, HRBlock.com could be the site for you.
